I am an adult with ADD/ADHD . . . Which ADD/ADHD medication is most likely to help me?
I am an ADD/ADHD parent in need of medication treatment. What medication is most likely to help me?
There is no one medication that is best for all ADD/ADHD adults, but there is only a small group of medications that are very likely to be effective and tolerated. Leading the pack in my experience is Strattera®, then Parnate®, then Adderall XR®, then Concerta® or Ritalin LA®, then desipramine, and finally protriptyline (Vivactil®). Which one to use has to do with factors such as need for 24 hour help rather than 12 hour benefit, ability to follow a diet, and tolerance of living and working with dryness of the mouth. Deciding on which medication or medications to try requires that you discuss your particular ADD/ADHD issues in detail with your doctor.
