My child is bright but is bringing home F's, not A's. The pediatrician has diagnosed ADD/ADHD brain chemistry. Is it reasonable to give my child a prescription medication for this one problem?
It is likely that more is going on with your child than just inattention in school.
First, look at the full range of ADD/ADHD behaviors and see how many your child in fact does have. It is likely that more ADD/ADHD behaviors are troubling your child than you first realized. Regardless, medication treatment is reasonable even if the only major problem is academic failure.
